Announcing Our April Site Award Winners

05 July 2018

Back in March we unveiled a new initiative for Mackoy, our monthly Site Manager and Site of The Month Awards.

Both of which are intended to show our appreciation for the hard work and effort our groundworkers put in on our sites. Paying tribute to those exceptional members of our team who represent the Mackoy brand with pride up and down the country. Not only while out and about on the roads but also on site at the high-profile building projects we have a hand in delivering throughout Hampshire, Sussex, Surrey and Dorset.

As you may remember our first winners were Andrew Brewer, for Site Manager of the Month, along with joint winners Sam Bowers and Mike Beare for Site of The Month. Who were awarded £250 each respectively when they scooped the inaugural Site Awards just a couple of months ago.

Since then of course we’ve gone on to have another round of winners. All of who, like Andrew, Mike and Sam, have been doing remarkable jobs on site for Mackoy. And deserve recognition for their continued efforts to deliver our groundworks and civil engineering contracts to the excellent standards we ask of our employees.

We apologise for being a little late in updating you with the winners for April. But rest assured we’re on the case when it comes to handing out the awards on time. So there’s no waiting around where the cash prize is concerned (our winners will no doubt be pleased to hear). We’ll also do our best to bring you the latest award announcements going forward – as soon as news comes in – so you’re always up to speed with developments as they unfold.

With that in mind, it gives us great pleasure to announce the Award for Site Manager of The Month for April 2018 goes to Ricky Smith, our Mackoy Site Manager at the Cala development in Hook.

Activity at the Hook site has been especially full-on of late and Ricky has done a sterling job in keeping things ticking over under enormous pressure. On our last visit we noted a visible improvement on the compound storage containers, along with the signage and pathways on site amid the CMLs, roads and pumping station going in. And all of which we owe Ricky full credit for so well done you! The £250 couldn’t go to a nicer or harder working member of our Mackoy Site Management team.

Mackoy Ltd Groundworks and Civil Engineering Foreman of the Month April Award Winner on Site

As for April’s Site of The Month, this award goes to Terry Donnelly for Bargate Homes, Medstead. In fact it’s no exaggeration to say that the Site of The Month Award needed no debate in April. After David Bacon, our Safety, Health, Environment and Quality Manager (SHEQ) visited the Medstead site with his number two Matt, Medstead became the clear frontrunner for Site of The Month. Having improved the most since the last round of inspections made by David and Matt earlier in the year.

In fact Terry only narrowly missed out on the Site Manager of The Month Award for this very reason (sorry Terry, you came a very close second). But it’s down to Terry’s hard work on site that Bargate Homes, Medstead is our April Site of The Month winner.

After being presented with their respective £250 Site Awards Terry and Ricky decided to donate the money to a funeral fund for close co-worker and long-time Mackoy employee whose father, an ex Mackoy employee, sadly passed away just before the Awards were announced.

We were incredibly humbled by this generous gesture on the part of the boys in helping out a member of our Mackoy family. As well as honouring the memory of another, sadly missed, member of our team. So we decided to match the £500 donation with our own contribution. As well as covering the boys’ wages so they could attend the funeral and pay their respects accordingly.

In case you didn’t realise it already, we’re a pretty fun and fair organisation to work for. And although our head count currently stands at over 300, we’re always happy to receive applications from talented and certified groundworkers in the areas we operate in. Details of which can be found on our Mackoy careers page. Who knows, you might even be picking up an award for Site Manager of The Month yourself one day…

In the meantime, we’ll be back soon with an update on our May 2018 Site of The Month and Site Manager of The Month Awards. So keep an eye on our Mackoy news page for details of the £250 winners. As well as details of our newest job openings, and latest groundworks and civil engineering projects (spoiler alert: there’s tons coming up).
