Helping Persimmon get Harbourside View off the ground

In May 2018, our team got to work breaking ground on a new Persimmon housing development in Portchester, Hampshire, which is located in the borough of Fareham, just four miles northwest of Portsmouth on England's south coast.

The contract appointment called for us to develop and install the essential groundwork infrastructure for all 120 residential units on-site, including the excavation works to clear the site in preparation for development to begin. As well as the the creation of all foundations for each two-, three-, four- and five-bed homes, our operatives had to ensure each plot was in its rightful position, and according to approved local authority plans and technical site drawings.

Creating the footprint for Portchester's new community

As one of the South's largest groundworks providers, Mackoy operatives are regularly on-site for leading housing developers in the geographical locations we service. The May 2018 build for Persimmon being no exception. Not only are we frequently tasked with the earthworks and the foundation excavations at the developments we're helping to create, we also lay the pipes for sewers and underground services to be connected. These are just a handful of the groundworks services we're able to supply our clients.

On the Cranleigh Road site in Portchester, creating the full sewer infrastructure to service each new home was a key part of the groundworks package we provided to Persimmon. We ensured that provisions were in place to manage the entire needs of the new community at Harbourside View without compromising the supply of services to neighbouring homes. This is just one of the reasons why it's vital to engage a groundworks supplier with experience of excavating near to, and around, live underground services.

Targeting a May 2020 completion

Alongside the 120 new houses, the site will also feature a public recreational space, complete with a children's play area. All of this is on track for a target completion date of May 2020, two years from first breaking ground.

Along with benefitting from excellent motorway links via the M27, Harbourside View residents will also have a choice of the A27 and M3, which are both within close proximity. This not only helps to connect the community to local supermarkets and other amenities in Portchester's centre (a mile away from the site), but also offers great commuter links to local employment hubs in the South.
