September's Site Award Winners

It's hard to believe that an entire month has gone by since we announced our August Site Award winners. With the next phase getting underway on our Highwood Group contract at North Stoneham Park, as well as continuing progress on groundworks for Persimmon in Portchester and Bellway in Emsworth (among others), it feels like we've barely come up for air. Yet here we are, once again, ready to crown our next round of Site Manager and Site of The Month award winners, this time for the month of September.

With work standards continuing to be consistently high across the board throughout the month, reflective in our teams' impressive site inspection scores, our Mackoy management had the challenge of whittling down the ultimate winners in each category once again. It's a challenge we'll gladly accept though because it just goes to demonstrate the advice we set out in our Good Practice Guide is being adopted on each of our worksites.

For September we've made the decision to award Site of The Month to Luzborough (our development with Wyatt Homes and Morrish Builders just outside the Hampshire Market town of Romsey), so congratulations to Gary 'Weally' Wild and Rick Fall, both of whom receive £250 respectively for their work at the development. Groundworks at Luzborough has just passed the one year mark, and with the final plots on target to be complete in early 2019 both Gary and Rick have been pushing on hard to keep build times to schedule and targets met.

Gary's scores in our Safety and Quality audits were especially high and together with Rick the two have been doing a superb job getting the dates for services and scaffolding locked in, as well as coordinating the 278 works to link the development to the site entrance and pub. All of which has helped us reach the home straight of our £3 million groundworks contract with Wyatt Homes and Morrish Builders, even in the face of changing specs on site. So once more congratulations Gary and Rick! We're nearly at the final finish and the site, under your direction, is looking deservedly great.

So, onto the winner of our Site Manager of The Month for September, which we're delighted to award to Shane Wheeler, Foreman for our Osborne Gate at Jennetts Park development with new client Redrow, in Bracknell.

Since Mackoy was granted access to the site in July Shane got his head straight down and put 100% effort into managing groundworks progress day-by-day. Our Mackoy compound went in nicely, and the houses he's now handed over have exceeded all of our expectations. Especially considering the site is one of the tightest in terms of space our team has had to contend with. Presenting an additional challenge to our operatives as they implement the essential groundworks infrastructure we've been brought in to deliver.

As Shane now turns his attention fully to the concrete frame for Osborne Gate at Jennetts Park's apartment block, the headway he's already achieved in spite of the space limitations is looking great and thoroughly impressive. Needless to say, we couldn't be more pleased with Shane's performance overseeing such an important new development for Mackoy, our first in partnership with house builder Redrow.

It's clear that Shane takes immense pride in the work he undertakes so his £500 Site Manager win has been well earned, and long deserved. In fact, Shane was also the winner of our Quality Photo competition for September too; with his fantastic photographs of the works at Osborne Gate earning him another £100 on top of the £500 Site Manager win, for a total £600 prize.

It's this kind of dedication and passion that we look for in all our groundworks operatives at Mackoy, together with CSCS and CPCS training - a key requirement of anyone joining our gangs.
