Bellway Contracts Mackoy for Emsworth build worth £7 million

27 July 2018

In November 2017, we started work on a new Bellway housing development in Emsworth in a groundworks contract worth £7 million. And a few months on from first breaking ground we’re pleased to report that work to the 125 new residential units, together with road infrastructure, is progressing to plan. With the first phase of 2, 3 and 4 bed homes set to launch in early autumn of this year.

Client: Bellway

Site Name: The Haven

Site Address: Emsworth, Hampshire

Contract Value: £7 million

Contract Summary: 125 units – residential & road

For those that don’t know it, Emsworth is a picturesque town in Hampshire that borders Chichester Harbour and West Sussex. It’s pretty small by Hampshire standards, with only around 10,000 residents currently calling it home. But local amenities include a cricket ground and two sailing clubs as well as a wealth of independent shops, boutiques, restaurants, inns and cafes. Anchored around its Town Square and surrounding side streets.

So there’s definitely no shortage of things to do in the local area.

The new development by Bellway will deliver 125 brand new homes to the catchment, divided between 2, 3 and 4-bed accommodation in both detached and semi-detached plots. And we’ve been on site since access was granted in November, helping to lay the foundations for the new houses on each plot. As well as building the residential roads that will navigate the site once development completes this autumn.

Each house on the Bellway project (known as The Haven) will be built to the highest spec in keeping with current energy efficiency and safety standards. While being mindfully constructed in a traditional style to blend in with the rural surroundings Emsworth sits in.

In fact, the development offers residents the best of both worlds: a stunning location in the rolling Hampshire countryside but with close proximity to road and rail links that service Portsmouth, Southampton, Brighton and London Victoria. With Emsworth train station itself just a short walk from the site. So it couldn’t be better located for commuters. Particularly those that want to ‘escape to the country’ after a long day’s work.

The other big benefit of The Haven’s location is the number of primary and secondary schools within a two-mile radius. Making the new homes a prime destination for families with teenage and young children. Especially since every plot in the scheme also comes with its own secure garden. Something Mackoy Director Danny Bowers knows is highly sought after among families looking to relocate within the area.

“The Haven’s a great site, set to enrich the local community and provide much-needed additional family housing to the Emsworth area. So we’re thrilled that Bellway awarded Mackoy the groundworks & civil engineering tender for this job. With ground breaking in November obviously we hit our stride on the site just as the worst of the winter weather was kicking in. But our groundworkers persevered, and in spite of some tough conditions, we’ve been able to ensure groundworks infrastructure on the build stays on track. With The Haven set to hit its opening sales plots later this year.”

As usual our team have had a big presence on site during excavations at Emsworth. Laying the foundations for what will no doubt be a diverse new community at the hub of the local area.

In fact, our work in Emsworth is just one of the exciting new housing schemes we’re helping to roll out across the Southern counties. With groundworks also underway for Persimmon in Portchester, Bloor Homes in Binfield and The Highwood Group in Eastleigh. Just a handful of the civil engineering and groundworks jobs around the South that Mackoy have successfully tendered for and won very recently
